The Act was enacted for the protection and improvement of environment and
the prevention of hazards to human beings, other living creatures, plants and
property. The Coastal Zone Management Plan for Lakshadweep is finalized and
implemented in Lakshadweep in accordance with the guidelines given in Annexure-I
& II of the Govt. of India, Ministry of Environment and Forests Coastal Regulation Zone
Notification No. S.O 114(E) dated 19th February, 1991 as amended in 1994 and
notified under Section 3 (I) and Section 3 (2) (v) of the Environment
(Protection) Act, 1986 and rules 5 (3) (d) of Environment Protection Rules,
1986.
