SOCIAL FORESTRY
The social and agro forestry, so far as this Union Territory is concerned, is of very vital importance to perpetuate and fulfill nature harnessing requirement especially of the vulnerable sea shore area which in all respect is the lifeline zone of the islands. The programme envisages coverage of vulnerable coastal areas with littoral and other indigenous species like Scaevola koenigii (Kanni), Pandanus odoratissimus (Kaitha), Pemphis acidula (Cheruthalam), Suriana maritime (Chonum), Tournefortia argentea (Thamara), Casurina equisetifolia (Chavok), etc to combat soil erosion.
