Major
activities proposed to be undertaken in the
current Plan period
1.
Modernisation
of Headquarter Press and Unit Press.
2.
Providing
training to staffs especially for modern machines like Image setter, Mini Offset, Pack to pack continuous printing
machine, Printing Down Frame, Six Clam Perfect Binder etc.
3.
Installation
of the following latest machineries in all Unit Presses.
a) Image
setter.
b) Photocopier.
c) DTP System with Printer
d) Mini Offset.
e) Digital Scanner cum
Printer.
f) Small
machineries like Spiral Binder, Wire-O-Binder, Fax, Laminator
etc.
Procurring the modern
machineries the space for installing the machineries are not sufficient in the
existing buildings. Now the
expansion work of Headquarter Press is nearing completion and new building was
proposed at Andrott. Storing
facilities at Mahl Press is in progress. It is therefore proposed to
undertake the following measure for the development of Press at
island.
(a) To replace the old machines and install
modern machineries for increase the quality and quantity of production.
(b)
Introduce DTP and other modern machineries in unit presses for improving
the quality of
Printing.
(c)
To provide special training to the officials engaged in modern
machineries for improving for
handling the machine.
(d)
Production of entire note books and printing of text books for islands to be done from
Govt. Press.
(e)
Production of office stationery material from Govt. Presses.
For the financial
year 2003-2004 this department has got an approved outlay of Rs. 141.00 lakhs
under Non Plan and Rs. 80 lakhs under plan side.
Private Presses: More and more people are coming forward for
establishing private presses and Govt. Press is giving technical guidance to
them. Now there are 3 private
presses functioning in HQ
Island and one Press at
Agatti.
